This internship is best suited to someone with a university background and a keen interest in Cyber Security.

We provide an approachable, customer focussed, one-stop-shop for the IT needs of small to medium sized businesses. Our key role is to work with our customers as their trusted technical partner to ensure their IT needs are met and that their IT systems are an effective and efficient component of their business. We utilise our expert knowledge of the latest technologies and services to improve our customers IT systems and reduce their overall costs.

Your internship position will provide opportunity for you to gain work experience and on the job training in relation to information technology with specific discipline to security operations centre (SOC).

Location: City Fringe, Auckland, New Zealand

Preferred duration: 8+ weeks

Eligibility requirements:

  • Entry level experience with systems admin skills (Linux/Mac/Windows)
  • Some experience in programming skills such as: Python, Ruby, PHP, C, C#, Java, Perl
  • Familiar with ticketing systems (ConnectWise Preferred)
  • Ability to multitask and give equal attention to a variety of functions while under pressure
  • Pass a criminal background and drug screening

Tasks:

  • Perform monitoring research, assessment and analysis on all notable security events across our managed customers
  • Review alerts to determine relevancy and urgency and communicate alerts to agencies regarding intrusions to the network infrastructure, applications and operating systems
  • Create servicing tickets for alerts that signal an incident and require Tier 2 / incident response review
  • Run vulnerability scans and reviews vulnerability assessment reports across our managed customers
  • Monitor and analyse security information and event management SIEM for remediation of security issues
  • Set and tune alerting for important events in our security monitoring tools (netflows, IDS, correlation rules, etc)
  • Monitoring and analysing network traffic, intrusion detection systems (IDS) security events and logs
  • Prioritise and differentiate between potential intrusion attempts and false alarms
  • Create and track security investigations to resolution
  • Advise incident responders in the steps to take to investigate and resolve computer security incidents
  • Stay up to date with current vulnerabilities, attacks and countermeasures
  • Other related roles and projects as they arise

  • Available between the hours of 8:30am – 5:00pm weekdays
