Drystock Assistant / Tractor Operator – New Zealand

This opportunity is based on a large-scale farming operation located in the Waikato region of New Zealand’s North Island. The farm spans approximately 1,000 hectares and operates across multiple dairy support and drystock units carrying dairy cows, beef cattle, young stock, calves, sheep and other livestock.

This placement provides a unique opportunity to gain practical experience within the New Zealand agricultural industry while experiencing rural Kiwi life. The role is best suited to someone who enjoys hands-on outdoor work, is practical and motivated, and is interested in learning more about livestock farming and machinery operation in New Zealand conditions.

For applicants with previous tractor and machinery experience, there may also be an opportunity to continue through the silage season from October to December in a more machinery-focused role.

Location: Waikato, North Island, New Zealand

Preferred duration: 8–12+ weeks

Eligibility requirements:

  • Farming, agriculture or machinery experience preferred
  • Good level of English
  • Driver’s licence preferred
  • Tractor experience highly regarded
  • Positive and flexible attitude towards farm life

Tasks:

Assist with daily drystock farm operations Feeding and checking livestock Assisting with calf rearing and animal care General farm maintenance and fencing Quad bike operation and towing calf feeders Assisting with stock movement and feeding Support during busy winter and spring farm periods Tractor driving and machinery operation (for experienced applicants) Assist with silage season operations including towing trailers, feeding out and implement work Other related farm duties and projects as required
