Wellington features a temperate maritime climate and is the world windiest city by average wind speed. Being the capital-city the majority of our interns have been placed within political organisation, NGO’s and government departments however we have also placed in fields including business, tourism, film and television, education, and start-ups. About Wellington
Wellington (Maori: Te Whanganui-a-Tara) has been the nation’s capital since 1865 and the New Zealand Government and Parliament, the supreme Court and most of the Public Services are based in Wellington. Wellington is also home to several of the largest and oldest cultural institutions in the nation including the National Archives, the national library, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and many theatres. Wellington is also host to many artistic and cultural organisations including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Wellington was voted one of the world most liveable cities in the 2016 Mercer Quality of Living Survey and ranked Wellington 12th in the world.

Wellington is primarily a service-based economy, with a focus on government and business-based services. Most major NGO’s are based in Wellington and it is also the main centre for film and special effects. Being home to Weta Workshops and where Peter Jackson is from, there is a thriving film and television industry with some calling Wellington “Wellywood. From this there is also a lot of growth in the information technology sector and start up scene with Fin-Tech hero, Xero, only starting in the capital in 2010. Wellington is one of New Zealand’s chief seaports with both international and domestic shipping and the Wellington airport is the third busiest airport in the country.
Intern accommodation in Wellington
We offer two kinds of accommodation: homestay and hostel residence. Whichever you choose we can promise that your accommodation will be safe, comfortable and no more than 45 minutes commute to your internship location.
In homestay accommodation, you’ll live with one of our registered host families in their home. You’ll have access to your own private bedroom, a shared bathroom and kitchen, and utilities including WIFI. Breakfast and dinner will be provided, and you’ll be expected to help out with cooking and cleaning. Homestay accommodation is a great option for travellers wanting to get to know some locals and experience the culture and lifestyle of New Zealanders from the inside.
Hostel accommodation involves living in a downtown Hostel. You’ll have your own private bedroom containing a fridge, single bed, writing table, lamp, and wardrobe. Bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared with other guests on your floor, and you’ll also have access to a communal area with a pool table, TV, and gym, as well as coin-operated laundry facilities. Hostel accommodation is perfect for those looking to have a more independent lifestyle while on placement.
